Home Defense Shotgun Buyer’s Guide

This week we’re looking at another weapon for your home defense toolbox, and that is the humble shotgun. Although American Family Survival is primarily geared towards North American preppers,
shotguns are one of those things that transcend international boundaries as they are more or less available globally, since they also have a legitimate sporting purpose. In this buyer’s guide, we’ll be looking at them from a home defense standpoint, however. Any sporting purpose that a shotgun has is fine and dandy, but we’re looking at this tool as a defensive weapon right now.
In our first guide, we covered home defense pistols, and the reason we looked at pistols first for home defense was that we wanted a weapon that could be used indoors, one which was capable of taking out a target while at the same time not over penetrating and potentially harming a loved one. Then, we looked at home defense rifles, which we extolled for their medium range versatility – they really shine when engaging medium range threats that could be in vehicles or behind cover.
