We pay a trash company to dispose of our refuse. Where it goes is unimportant to us – all we know is that they pick up our trash every week without fail, and for that we are happy. Few people think about the conditions that will emerge if and when any of these services end.
Sanitation is a topic of the utmost importance, since even in the battlefield, disease and non battle injuries (known as DNBI in Army speak) far outnumber combat injuries. Perhaps you didn’t realize that in every armed conflict the United States has been involved in, disease, illness, and other non battle ailments make up 80% of all casualties! Only 20% of soldier’s injuries or ailments come from combat. Sanitation is a huge issue! You can’t fight if you’re sick!
